Everyone is playing video games now. When they arrived on the scene, the main audience for them were teens that were somewhat socially inept or “geeky”, but that has changed.
Now, not only do kids and teenager play video games but grown men and women play them in their spare time as well. In fact, the 25-34 age group is one of the largest group of customers buying these PlayStation games and Xbox games.
Women love this kind of computer simulated interaction too and account for 40% of the main audience. The game consoles market is so large that almost no demographic is excluded.
According to recent studies, video games are now more popular than television. Twenty years ago families would sit down together and watch the Cosby Show. Millions still watch television every night. But the world of entertainment has changed.
There are now thousands of websites dedicated to discussions regarding specific games. For example. there are sites that have discussion boards on strategies and updates and tips for gamers dedicated solely to Madden Football.
In recent years, U.S. sales of video games have begun to pass Hollywood box office revenues. That statistic won’t change and the gap between the two will only continue to grow larger as more and more people get hooked on the realistic simulations that companies are putting out.
This is especially true as the gaming industry has begun to target young children. Some say that video games are contributing to the dumbing down of America’s kids. Perhaps that is not true.
Electronic games promote a lot of beneficial things such as hand eye coordination, improved concepts of literature such as character development, and can make learning fun and exciting. There are tons of new ones on the market that teach reading and arithmetic through both handheld and console video games.
There is even talk of incorporating them in the learning strategy for some schools. Children’s hospitals have also found an excellent use for them. Often times when children are undergoing treatments for serious illnesses such as cancer or sickle cell anemia their treatments can be long and painful. Hand held video games are a wonderful way to brighten a child’s day and take their mind off of what is happening.
Video games are extremely popular and have caused a revolution in the entertainment industry. They are fun for everyone and are shaking off the bad rap they’ve had in the past. If you aren’t already playing them then you should start today!

There is something special about the video games of today. The people who enjoy playing them are living in a very exiting time. With the recent releases of Nintendo Wii and Playstation 3 (and Xbox 360 a little while back) the gaming experience has been raised to a whole new level. You know there must be something really exciting about the newly released next generation video game systems if people are willing to camp out in front of stores for a week before their release and then stampede inside the store once they open the doors.
While the hype was substantial leading up to the releases of Nintendo Wii and Sony’s Playstation 3, there is also something to be said for customer satisfaction in these cases. These customers are so happy with what they have already seen in the previous products of these companies that they cannot wait to get their hands on whatever products they are offering next.
The new features that these new systems offer such as Motion-Sensitive Remotes, Online Gaming, Wi-Fi Support and High Definition Game Support have customers fighting to be the first ones to have them. It is doubtful that any of them minded the camping out in front of the store part though, because they probably all had a PSP (Playstation Portable) with them and were playing all the cool PSP downloads they got from the Internet. You can now bring your video games with you where ever you go on the planet.
Sony and Nintendo are now neck and neck in the race for technological dominance of the computer game industry. While Playstation 2 dominated this race for years since it’s debut back in 1995, Xbox 360 came on the scene and became a competitor. Nintendo suddenly vaulted to the front of the race when they recently released their Wii console. This system takes gaming to a whole new level. It has a revolutionary type of motion sensitive remote control that allows the user to get off their seat and actually get some exercise as they punch, swing, kick and dance their way through the games.
Sony released their Playstation 3 console soon after Wii was released and they jumped back to the front of the race with this action along side Nintendo. Wii is selling for a little bit less than Playstation 3 is selling for, and this is a big plus for parents on a budget. However, Sony’s new system has many impressive features of it’s own such as DVD Movie Playback capability and a 60GB hard drive available. These two systems have a little bit of an advantage over Xbox, for it does not have a motion sensitive remote control.
Xbox will eventually have a system that is comparable to these two systems. The main reason that Xbox 360 is still in the game is because they have such a huge selection of games that go with their systems. The Xbox 360 console has 116 games that can be played with it, while Playstation 3 has 41 and Wii has 47 games. It will not be long before a new version of Xbox 360 is released and then the race will have 3 companies running neck and neck at the front.
Playing a video game these days is like stepping into another world and leaving reality behind for a little while. The technology that is involved with the production of these games is definitely on the cutting edge. Things like next generation motion capture, high definition graphics and motion-sensitive remote controls have made today’s video gaming experience nothing less than exhilarating, and to some extent liberating. Your problems disappear once you escape into the world of a video game.
The quality of the graphics, the level of interactivity and the variety of features these spectacular computer games offer these days are like nothing ever seen before. Playing these games is a great way to lose stress and forget about your problems for a little while, even if it is just for twenty minutes during a lunch break. Gameboy and Sony’s PSP units have made it so that you can play games just about anywhere.
It is an exciting time to be a video game player. Technology has advanced to the point where you are no longer just playing the game, but you are actually in the game. If you are the kind of person who just loves to play video games, then you must agree that it is a great time to be alive.

video games have often been criticized as detrimental to our children’s health, mental to be specific. In fact children with learning handicaps attributed to video game addiction are branded as Vidiots. If we really have their best interest in our hearts there are ways we could make this video games work to their advantage. Here are some ground rules you should lay before allowing your kid to while away his time playing with the vidiot box:

·        For the little ones who are still in the pre-learning process, make it a point to start them off with educational video games. There are a lot of these in the market nowadays since educators have become aware of the fact that these video games can be a good medium for learning.

 ·        Put down a house rule for playing time and playing limits. You can adapt it to your time, either when it is your busiest or during your resting hour.Â

 ·        From time to time, be there to guide them in the learning process so that they will not lose interest in case things get beyond their comprehension. Once they get the hang of it they will be able to manage the games on their own and you can go back to doing your chores as usual.

 ·        You will have much to talk about with your kid during moments when he or she is not playing with the video console. Drill her with what she learned from the game, like alphabets and numbers until she gets to memorize them. Soon enough even at a tender age of three you can start teaching her how to read.

 ·        Make them interested about the words that appear on the screen as they play. Word such as: Go, Stop, Play, Level, Round, Win, Lose and many others which frequently appear on the screen. Through a repetitive process they will recognize these words and will learn to read them through visual recognition.

 ·        As they progress lay down another ground rule. Impose a study schedule which should be done before they are allowed to play their video boxes. To avoid any resistance, give them enough pep talks on how too much video and too little knowledge can make vidiots out of them.

 ·        Focus their study on reading; follow the patterns of the words that they already recognize. An example will be: Go, introduce new words by replacing the letters into No or So then slowly progress by affixing another letter God, cod, nod, sod. As the child recognizes how words gets to be formed, replace each letter or add another letter with the ones she can already read. As soon as you have tapped their interest in reading they will initiate the reading process on their own.

 ·        As they get to advance with their games, they will encounter new words which you will help them to read. Later, make it a point to have them read the game instructions on their own to promote their comprehension skills.

 ·        The more words the child learns to read and comprehend, the more fascinated they will be with their reading ability. Words will no longer be limited to the video games but they will begin to explore the words they find on cereal boxes, groceries, detergents and the commercial ads they see on tv.

 ·        As they get to discover more things, their interests will expand into something more, to books, to word puzzles and everything that present challenges on their reading ability. In fact they will easily lose interest on games that tend to be repetitive and boring and will seek for something more challenging.

As a parent you will reap the benefits of the advantages that they developed through the use of the video boxes. It may entail some form of resistance at first but remember that it is only a matter of your will as a parent or their will as an innocent clashing here. Try not to be soft but don’t be too hard either. Just remember that it is first and primarily for their own good. Soon enough, they will be out of your hair but this time in more productive ways.  Â
